On the day that The Falcon And Winter Soldier ends, a new beginning for Captain America 4 has been announced!
The Hollywood Reporter, err, reports that FAWS showrunner Malcolm Spellman has been hired to co-write the fourth installment of the Captain America franchise alongside co-FAWS co-writer Dalan Musson. Presumably, the latest sequel in the Captain America franchise will see Anthony Mackie reprise his role as Sam Wilson/Captain America.
– – HEAVY SPOILERS BELOW – –
In the season finale of FAWS, it was established that Falcon is no more and that Sam Wilson is Captain America. John F. Walker, meanwhile, has been relegated to the role of U.S. Agent, a character that has a long history in Marvel comics. Bucky, meanwhile, has shrugged off his robot assassin tendencies and lives as a civilian, and Sharon Carter has been exposed as The Power Broker. Is Carter just a figurehead serving more nefarious powers? Is Hydra and Arnim Zola involved, as some have speculated? And just who in the hell was Carter talking to on the phone at the end of the final episode? Captain America 4 may provide answers.
What does the announcement of Captain America 4 mean for the prospects of season 2 of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier? With the showrunner of the FAWS bending his will towards the production of the feature length film, it’s safe to assume that any progress on season 2 of FAWS would come after the release of the film, or not at all. With the announcement of the film coming on the same day as the release of the finale episode of season one, one must expect that Captain America 4 won’t be released until some time in 2023. No director is currently attached to helm the movie.
